Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) has become an important consideration for the modern business. But how can we demonstrate ESG in a meaningful way?

It’s sad but true that many businesses merely pay lip service to ESG objectives as a means of looking good. However, we believe that ESG is not just about checking boxes, it’s about making a tangible impact.

At Marlowe SRC, we are driven by a genuine desire to make a difference—that’s why we’re thrilled to announce our partnership with Ecologi, the UK’s leading climate platform. So, to reduce our carbon footprint and showcase our commitment to ESG, we have funded multiple sustainability projects all around the world.

What is Ecologi?

Ecologi is a revolutionary platform that empowers businesses to fund reforestation and carbon avoidance projects. By allowing us to calculate our carbon footprint and reduce our emissions, Ecologi is helping businesses like us contribute to a greener future.

Their ultimate mission is to inspire and empower businesses to accelerate global climate action. So far, Ecologi has 42,142 members with 75.4 million trees funded and 2.9 million tonnes of carbon avoided!

Demonstrating ESG should not just be about improving your reputation, it should aim to make a sustainable impact. With the support of Ecologi, we hope to affect positive change and make a real difference to our planet.

What is our impact so far?

Since we began our journey with Ecologi, we have funded 825 trees and 2 other sustainability projects across the world…

Marlowe SRC is a compliance ecosystem, made up of three powerhouse brands: Elogs, William Martin, and Barbour EHS. So, naturally, we must acknowledge how each of our unique brands have supported this mission.

Elogs

With over 10 trees planted across the UK, Elogs have made a great start to their ESG journey. These trees include Aspen and Sessile Oak, both of which work to restore healthy ecosystems.

William Martin

William Martin have also made a significant impact with Ecologi, having funded 365 global trees. One of the main planting locations includes Madagascar, a hotspot for biodiversity.

Barbour EHS

Barbour have contributed to an important project to protect the Matavén forest in eastern Columbia. This inspiring project will prevent an estimated 3,622, 352 tonnes of CO2e emissions per year.

Although we are extremely proud to have started this journey, this is only the beginning. We plan to do even more going forward and our hope is that our contribution will inspire others and pave the path to a more sustainable future. What are the benefits of planting trees for the environment?

Of course, most of us are aware that planting trees is good for the environment—but the question is: how?

Trees are powerful storage vessels which can reduce the amount of carbon in the atmosphere by sequestering carbon dioxide (CO2). This means that they can absorb CO2 from the air and store it in their trunks, safely locking it away. Through the process of photosynthesis, trees release oxygen, replacing harmful gases with a necessary life-source.

From the moment they are planted, trees help to:

  • Boost biodiversity.
  • Restore healthy ecosystems.
  • Reduce CO2 emissions.

But it’s not just the tree itself that’s beneficial, it’s also the process of planting them. Reforestation projects provide jobs for local people, promoting improved community facilities, new income streams, and gender equality.

Working with Ecologi means we have become part of a worldwide movement, saving the planet one tree at a time.

What is the Solar Power Project in Morocco?

In addition to planting trees across the globe, we have also funded a solar power project in Morocco. The reason for this project is that Morocco’s main source of energy is fossil fuels, with almost 90% generated from oil and coal power. This demonstrates a real need for renewable energy solutions—that’s where Ecologi come in.

The Ouarzazate solar power station is one of the largest concentrated solar projects in the world, located in a region with the highest amounts of annual sunlight. So, what was the result of this project?

Through funding this project, Marlowe SRC have contributed towards:

  • The provision of 7000 local jobs.
  • Renewable energy generation.
  • Educational schemes and skills training.
  • A mobile hospital which provides health services to the local community.
  • The purchase of a school minibus which has reduced school drop-out rates.

For us, the beauty of this project lies in its ripple effect on the local community; not only does it benefit the environment, but also the people who call it home.

What is next for Marlowe SRC?

We can change the world and make it a better place. It is in our hands to make a difference”.

– Nelson Mandela

Our partnership with Ecologi is only the start of our ESG journey, we plan to continue our mission to protect the planet and change the world for the better.

We take immense pride in our ongoing efforts to fund these impactful sustainability projects. Together, we’re not just playing our part, we’re fostering a legacy of sustainability and compassion.
